LET'S MAKE LIFE SAFER FOR THOSE WHO "RIDE THE RAILS", AND I DON'T MEAN DRAGSTERS...

My apologies to those who prefer that I don't "derail" the usual subject of drag racing on this blog page, however, I do believe that it's high time that I address the issue of safety (or lack of) for those people who regularly "ride the rails" (and I don't mean dragsters)... More than 70 people have been killed in commuter train crashes since 2000. Just yesterday, 100 people were hurt when a Long Island Rail Road train crashed into a bumping block at the end of the track at a terminal in Brooklyn, and I'd say it was certainly reminiscent of the incident that happened when a NJ Transit Train had an even more catastrophic accident back in September, at the Hoboken, New Jersey terminal, that proved deadly for a woman and caused severe injuries to commuting passengers. And of course there's that horrific derailment of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania back in 2015 that killed 10 innocent passengers...  Look, there's technology available, that's been available for decades, that can automatically slow down "runaway trains" and help avoid these sort of menacing mishaps. Why so many popular train lines still refuse to spend the money to install same technology on their railways is a slap in the face to all those who use trains as a frequent form of transportation. I implore commuters who take trains, to insist that  America's railways be updated and made safer. You deserve safer trains. It's not too much to ask of the transit companies who take your hard earned money everyday to ride their trains, to do everything they can to make your ride a safer trip. C'mon, America, we need to do better for our commuters...
