We're driving into what's hopefully going to be a safe and sane new year for all. 2017 was arguably one of the most volatile years in recent U.S. history (at least since 1968). We saw the "alt right" movement run over and savagely kill a woman demonstrating against racism in Virginia. We saw one of the two major national political parties get behind and finance a candidate who's a credibly charged sexually twisted creep in Alabama. We saw more mass shootings to make our skin crawl. We witnessed a nation strongly divided on several different important issues. 2017 was a year that just wasn't our nation at its best. I sincerely do hope that peace and goodwill for one and all can take the forefront as we accelerate into the year 2018. Below is one of my fave photo shots by one of my fave veteran drag racing photographers, John McCartney, of Old Bridge Township Raceway Park fame. It's yours truly in the cockpit of the Speed World Super/Gas doorslammer. The photo was used on the Drag Racing Underground album... I want to think that I'm seated at the wheel of this new year, and I'm going to drive us into a realm of stable, decent, civil, humane thought and noble ambition-- Let's all drive into 2018 with a non-bigoted, rational mindset that will be considerate of all good Americans, and not make our nation look ignorant and cockeyed on the world stage -- Let's drive into 2018 with a clear picture of fairness for our fellow man, and a collective hope for a future of peace, good health and prosperity... Let's please all make 2018 a year we can be genuinely proud of...
